Two U.S. soldiers are missing in Morocco during joint U.S.-African military exercises, prompting an extensive five-day search operation. The soldiers vanished last week near the Cap Draa training area outside Tan-Tan and are believed to have fallen into the Atlantic Ocean during a recreational hike.
Search Operation Underway
Over 600 military personnel from the U.S., Morocco, and other African Lion participants are involved in the search, covering more than 17 square miles of coastal and open-ocean areas. One soldier, who could not swim, fell into the ocean, and a second soldier entered the water to attempt a rescue but was also swept away by a wave.
African Lion Exercises
The African Lion is the largest U.S. joint military exercise in Africa, involving over 7,000 personnel from more than 30 nations and is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
