Turkey has started analysing the black boxes from a private jet crash that killed eight people, including the military chief of western Libya, the Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday. The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with Libyan authorities.
The aircraft, carrying General Muhammad Ali Ahmad al-Haddad, four other military officials, and three crew members, crashed on Tuesday shortly after departing from Ankara, killing all on board. Libyan officials have cited a technical malfunction as the likely cause.
The high-level Libyan delegation was returning to Tripoli after defence talks in Ankara aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two nations. The wreckage was scattered across three square kilometres, complicating recovery efforts, according to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
A 22-person delegation, including five family members, arrived from Libya early on Wednesday to assist with the investigation.
