The Met Office has officially named Storm Dave, the fourth major storm of the year, which is forecast to bring extreme weather conditions across the United Kingdom over the Easter holiday period. This powerful weather system is expected to generate very strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 90 miles per hour in some exposed coastal areas.
Widespread Weather Warnings Issued for Multiple Regions
A yellow wind warning has been activated for parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales, and northern England, effective from Saturday evening through Easter Sunday. Simultaneously, a separate yellow snow warning has been issued specifically for north-west Scotland, valid between 3pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday. Meteorologists predict that heavy snowfall could accumulate up to 10-20 centimetres in elevated areas above 200 metres in northern Scotland, leading to hazardous blizzard conditions when combined with the intense winds.
Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree provided detailed insights into the storm's development, stating, "Storm Dave will form and rapidly deepen on Saturday as it approaches the UK from the west. By Saturday afternoon, winds will strengthen significantly, with gusts of 60-70mph expected across parts of Scotland, and the potential for 80-90mph gusts in exposed coastal locations. More widely, gusts of 50-60mph are likely across northern Britain."

Beyond the wind and snow threats, Storm Dave is also anticipated to bring heavy spells of rain as it moves eastwards across the country. Crabtree emphasised the importance of preparation, advising, "With Storm Dave a few days away, people should prepare their property for the strong winds and keep updated with the latest weather forecasts, as warnings are likely to be updated." Residents in affected areas are urged to secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during the peak of the storm, and monitor official updates from the Met Office.
