Central London was thrown into disarray on Wednesday when two military horses broke free from their handlers and embarked on a chaotic dash through the city's busy streets. The dramatic incident saw the powerful animals colliding with vehicles and sending debris flying as panicked pedestrians looked on.
City Centre Chaos Unfolds
The runaway horses, part of the Household Cavalry, first caused disruption at Buckingham Palace Road before bolting through the morning rush hour traffic. Eyewitnesses described scenes of pure pandemonium as the spooked animals galloped past some of London's most iconic landmarks.
One of the horses, visibly distressed and covered in blood from its injuries, crashed into a taxi outside the Clermont Hotel, shattering windows and damaging the vehicle's windshield. The impact sent glass fragments scattering across the road as the animal continued its frantic escape.
Emergency Response Activated
Armed forces personnel and Metropolitan Police officers immediately launched a major operation to contain the situation. The horses were eventually apprehended and received urgent veterinary attention for their wounds.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson confirmed: "A number of military working horses became loose during routine exercise this morning. All of the horses have now been recovered and are receiving appropriate veterinary attention."
