A woman has refused to move her car after a neighbour branded her a 'scumbag' for allegedly blocking his driveway. The woman, named Emma, shared her story on TikTok, explaining that she had just moved into a new property when the dispute arose.
Emma recorded the parking situation outside her window, showing a car belonging to 'someone she knows' parked slightly further along the road from her own home. The neighbour, who lives on the opposite side of the road, claimed the vehicle was blocking his driveway. However, Emma pointed out that the car was parked on the other side of the road, with no houses directly in front of it.
Emma said: 'This neighbour is saying he can't get off his drive. He has claimed he can't get his car out and that it's an offence to block his drive, but obviously, we're not blocking his drive. He called us scumbags, and he said, 'Park it there again and watch what happens'.' She added that the neighbour had taken pictures of her house, and she contacted the police via the non-emergency 101 number.
Commenters on TikTok sided with Emma, joking that even a bus could reverse out of the neighbour's driveway without hitting the parked car. One commenter said: 'I hate reversing, and even I could get out of there.' Another remarked: 'If he can't get his car out in that space, he should hand his licence back.'
Parking across a dropped kerb is illegal and can result in a Penalty Charge Notice. However, parking on the opposite side of the road to a dropped kerb is perfectly legal, provided there are no yellow lines restricting access. From Emma's video, there appear to be no yellow lines, meaning the car is not breaking any laws.
