West Bromwich Albion have dropped two places in the Championship table following a two-point deduction for breaching English Football League profitability and sustainability rules. The sanction moves them from 18th to 20th, leaving them level on points with 21st-placed Charlton Athletic but with a superior goal difference of four.
Relegation Threat Looms
The Baggies now sit six points above the relegation zone with two matches remaining, meaning they are no longer mathematically safe from dropping to League One. A single point would secure their second-tier status, or they could stay up if Charlton lose both remaining games or Oxford United fail to win either of theirs.
Upcoming Fixtures
West Brom host Ipswich Town on Saturday lunchtime, while Charlton welcome Hull City at the same time. Oxford United are at home against already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday at 3pm. On the final day, Albion travel to Wednesday, Charlton visit Swansea City, and Oxford face Millwall, with all Championship games kicking off at 12:30pm.
The two-point deduction does not affect Leicester City, who remain seven points adrift of West Brom with only six points available after their own earlier deduction.
West Brom have two weeks to appeal the decision after receiving full written reasons. The club stated: "For now, we will settle this on the pitch."
