Residents on Arne Road in Walsgrave, Coventry, have been left outraged after a bright green parcel locker was installed just yards from their homes. The 8ft (2.4m) locker, owned by Yeep!, a specialist in delivery lockers, appeared on April 10, prompting anger among locals who say they were initially told a concrete base was for a salt box.
John Davies, 77, who lives nearby, said: 'Everybody is up in arms about it. It’s on the lawn that's tended by the residents themselves. All the gardens are kept prim and proper around here.' He added that the locker has not been used once since installation and blocks a neighbour's front window.
Fellow resident Lynda Congrave, 79, who has lived on the street for 40 years, called the locker 'disgusting' and raised concerns about child safety. She said: 'I used to be able to check in on my friend across the road by looking through her front room - now I can’t see past this block.'
Coventry City Council confirmed the installation is under investigation to determine whether it was erected illegally. A spokesman said: 'Nothing further to say at this stage, the matter is under investigation and officers have contacted the landowner and locker company.'
Yeep! CEO Jamie Dickinson apologised unreservedly, stating: 'We acknowledge that the location was wholly unsuitable and have taken immediate action to deactivate and remove the locker. We have also reviewed our internal procedures to prevent a similar experience occurring.'
