Residents of a quiet cul-de-sac in Coventry have been left furious after a bright green parcel locker was installed just yards from their homes. The 8ft (2.4m) locker, owned by Yeep!, a specialist in battery and solar-powered delivery lockers, appeared on Arne Road in Walsgrave earlier this month.
Residents Express Outrage
Homeowners say they were initially told that a concrete base was being laid for a new salt box, only to discover the large green box had been erected instead. John Davies, 77, who lives a few doors away, said: “Everybody is up in arms about it. It’s on the lawn that’s tended by the residents themselves. All the gardens are kept prim and proper around here.” He added that the locker has not been used once since it was installed on April 10.
Safety and Aesthetic Concerns
Lynda Congrave, 79, a resident of 40 years, described the locker as “disgusting” and said it blocks her view of her friend’s house across the street. She also raised safety concerns: “I’m all concerned about the young children who play around here. If cars come speeding down to drop parcels, there could be an accident.”
Suzanna Davies, 57, who works in school administration, said: “It’s outrageous. We were on holiday and when we got back it was there, plonked in the middle. We all care for where we live.” She also highlighted the risk of increased traffic in the resident-only parking area.
Council Investigation Underway
Coventry City Council has confirmed it is investigating whether the locker was installed illegally. A spokesperson said: “Nothing further to say at this stage, the matter is under investigation and officers have contacted the landowner and locker company.”
Yeep! has been approached for comment but has not yet responded. The locker is located half a mile from the nearest shop, and residents question its necessity given the availability of lockers near a nearby supermarket and bingo hall.
