A portable solar panel could be the answer for hikers and campers tired of lugging heavy power banks. The Bluetti 60W folding panel, priced at around £99, aims to balance portability with reliable power generation. We took it on a camping trip to Somerset to see how it performs.
The panel's eight-fold design collapses to an A4-sized square with a handle, weighing just 1.4kg. It is built with durable ETFE-laminated monocrystalline silicon, resistant to scratches and water. While it lacks an integrated kickstand, it can be propped against a rucksack or tent using its reinforced metal eyelets and included carabiners.
In real-world summer conditions, the panel delivered 50-55W through its DC5521 port and consistent 30W fast charging via USB-C. The high operating voltage of 23.1V helps maintain charging when clouds pass, though partial shading reduces output. The panel includes three simultaneous ports: DC5521 (60W), USB-C PD30W, and USB-A 18W.
Bluetti has made a compromise by omitting a kickstand for maximum portability. For those prioritising perfect angle adjustment, heavier panels from EcoFlow or Jackery may be preferable. However, for a lightweight, rugged option that can be strapped to a backpack or bike, the Bluetti 60W offers a practical solution.
