Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has become involved in a dispute over a public footpath near his home in Norfolk. The former Duke of York, who was stripped of his titles by King Charles last year, moved into Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate after being evicted from his Windsor mansion.
Campaign to reopen historic route
Campaigners in the rural corner of eastern England are fighting to reopen a historic public footpath that runs next to his residence, potentially exposing him to further public ridicule, according to the Eastern Daily Press. Dr David Ormerod says the right of way was wrongly removed from official records around 70 years ago and has lodged an application for it to be re-established.
He is seeking for the route, which crosses the Wolferton marshes, to be registered as a restricted by-way, restoring public access near Andrew's red-brick farmhouse.
Recent confrontation near the property
The development comes just weeks after Andrew told a court he came face to face with an alleged stalker wearing a balaclava who chased after him in a confrontation close to Marsh Farm. Alex Jenkinson, 39, was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards the former duke on May 6.
Andrew's witness statement said he was out for a walk with his dogs on the Sandringham Estate when he spotted a car which he assumed to belong to press photographers and which he and his security detail "drove past". He said a man "turned and faced me - he was wearing a balaclava face covering".
The King's younger brother provided a description of the "out of place" man and added in his statement: "I then saw a loose dog running towards him. Then he realised who I was and began to sprint after my vehicle."
Jenkinson denies the public order offence and will face a criminal trial on December 21, with Andrew expected to give evidence by video link. The Express has contacted the Sandringham Estate for comment.
