King Charles is reportedly under pressure to make amends with Prince Harry due to his position as head of the Church of England, according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe. The monarch, who has had a strained relationship with his youngest son in recent years, may meet Harry during the prince's upcoming UK visit this month.
Religious Duty Drives Reconciliation Efforts
Speaking to New Magazine, Larcombe explained that Charles's role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England compels him to embrace forgiveness. "As the Defender of the Faith, he has to subscribe to the notion of forgiveness and not holding grudges. King Charles takes that quite seriously because his mother did," Larcombe said.
The expert added: "From Charles' point of view, it's his son. In his first speech when he became King, he declared his love for Harry and Meghan and although he's had a lot of that thrown back in his face, it clearly shows his mindset. He doesn't want to be at loggerheads with his son, he doesn't want the feuding to continue."
Potential Meeting During Harry's UK Visit
It is believed that Harry and the King could meet on Harry's upcoming UK visit this month. Reports suggest the King has offered Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet the option to stay at a royal residence. Any meeting between the two is expected to be private, with the father and son having last seen each other in September.
Larcombe emphasized the importance of Charles's religious obligations: "He's devoted to what's expected of him as monarch, and that is a major part of it. He can't just oust his son and be seen publicly to not be forgiving."
Background of the Feud
The relationship between Harry and the royal family has been strained since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Harry's memoir, "Spare," and various interviews have further complicated family dynamics. Despite this, Charles has reportedly remained open to reconciliation, consistent with his faith.
