Trump Defends Health, Shows Band-Aids on Hand at Cabinet Meeting
Trump's bruised hand sparks health questions at cabinet meeting

Former President Donald Trump has once again confronted questions about his physical wellbeing, appearing at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday 2 December 2025 with two large Band-Aids covering the back of his right hand.

Trump Dismisses Media Scrutiny

During the meeting, the 79-year-old president expressed clear annoyance at media focus on his health. He mocked headlines from September that speculated about his condition after he was not seen publicly for a period. "You people are crazy," Trump told reporters, adding, "I'll let you know when something is wrong." He went on to boast about his recent physical examination results, claiming he received "all As" and a perfect score on a cognitive test.

The Cause of the Bruising

The visible bandages, which were placed over an area that also appeared to have makeup, have become a recurring feature. The White House has previously been forced to address public concern over the frequent bruising on Trump's hand. Dr. Sean Barbabella, the physician to the president, stated the bruising is a "well-known and benign side effect" of aspirin therapy, which the president takes as part of a cardiovascular prevention regimen. The therapy can make bruises appear more prominent.

Dr. Barbabella explained the condition is "consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin." Furthermore, the White House revealed in July that Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a circulatory condition that can cause swelling in the lower extremities.

Rambling Speech and Reactions

Trump's defence of his health came during a wide-ranging cabinet speech where he also made false insinuations that the media did not scrutinise President Joe Biden's health to the same degree. At points during the meeting, the president was seen with his hands tucked under the desk, and some observers accused him of briefly closing his eyes as if dozing off.

The incident underscores the ongoing scrutiny of the age and health of leading political figures, with Trump actively seeking to project an image of vigour while managing a minor but visible medical condition.
