A tragic accident in Ramdham, India, has claimed the lives of a married couple after the wife slipped on a staircase and fell onto her husband, crushing him. Manjula Vithlani, 68, who weighed 20 stone, was rushing to check on her ill son when she lost her balance.
The incident occurred at around 4am when the couple's daughter-in-law, Nisha, came downstairs to fetch medicine for her husband Ashish, who was suffering from breathing problems. Manjula and her husband Natvarlal, also 68, hurriedly tried to go upstairs to check on him.
Police reported that Manjula slipped and fell onto Natvarlal, who was climbing behind her. Both were rushed to a private hospital but died from cerebral haemorrhage caused by the impact.
Investigating officer Pradhyuman Ravaiya stated that the couple were always anxious about their son's health and acted in too much of a hurry. The couple lived on the ground floor while their son and his wife occupied the first floor.
