Delta Goodrem is representing Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest this year, aiming to clinch victory with her track Eclipse. This marks a change for the singer-songwriter, who signed her first recording deal at just 15 and has built her reputation on piano-led pop rock, according to the Express.
The Australian sensation, 41, has remained in the spotlight for more than two decades, with a diverse career spanning music, television, and theatre. As she gears up to grace the Eurovision stage during the second semi-final on Friday (May 15), which the BBC will broadcast, we delve into Delta's life and illustrious career.
Rise to Fame
Delta exploded onto the music scene with her 2003 album Innocent Eyes, which topped the charts in Australia. Since then, she has delivered numerous albums and over 40 singles, cementing her status as one of Australia's most prolific artists.
Beyond music, the star has made her mark in acting, portraying Nina Tucker in Neighbours between 2002 and 2005, returning to the character in recent years, and featuring in comedy drama House Husbands. In 2023, she got her break on the big screen, appearing alongside Joshua Sasse in romantic comedy Love Is In The Air. Her theatrical credits include playing Grizabella in Cats, while she has also served as a coach on talent show The Voice.
Cancer Diagnosis
In July 2003, just months after her debut album dropped, the singer received a diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma. Speaking to the Daily Mail last year, she revealed: "It changed the trajectory of my life completely. The whole country was sitting outside my front door watching me and my family go through this thing the best we could. I knew everything was going to be very different. How do you all of a sudden go from planes, trains, and automobiles to this being your life?" Following radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment, Delta made a complete recovery.
High-Profile Romance
Delta is now wed to fellow musician Matthew Copley, though she was previously in a high-profile relationship with Westlife's Brian McFadden. The couple first crossed paths while collaborating on the 2005 single Almost Here, sparking a romance that would last several years and lead to an engagement. However, by 2011, they had decided to go their separate ways. At the time, a joint statement read: "Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden regretfully announce that they are no longer engaged, and after much consideration, have mutually decided to end their relationship. This decision has been made with a lot of soul searching from both parties with the realisation that they have grown apart. They leave the partnership with respect for one and other, wishing each other success and happiness for the future."
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 Grand Final will be broadcast on the BBC on May 16.
