A German tourist has died after being bitten by a venomous snake during a snake-charming show at a hotel in Hurghada, Egypt, according to German police.
The 57-year-old man was watching the performance with his family in early April when the snake charmer allowed one of the reptiles, believed to be a cobra, to crawl into the man's trousers. The snake then bit him on the leg.
Police in southern Bavaria stated that the victim showed clear signs of poisoning and required resuscitation before being taken to hospital, where he later died. The man, from the Unterallgäu district, was on holiday with two relatives.
German authorities are investigating the death and awaiting toxicology results. Egyptian officials said they were unaware of the incident when contacted by Agence France-Presse.
