Shower grout mould 'gone in 1 hour' with two staple items, not bleach
Shower grout mould 'gone in 1 hour' with two staple items

A cleaning expert has shared a safer and more effective way to remove mould from shower grout and silicone sealant without using bleach. While bleach is a common choice, the TikToker and author Anna Louisa at Home warns that it may not kill mould spores, allowing the problem to return. She instead recommends a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil.

Why avoid bleach?

In a viral video, Anna explained that using chlorine bleach on mould will get rid of it temporarily but won't kill the spores, meaning it will eventually come back. Additionally, bleach can create a toxic gas when used on mould, posing health risks.

The alternative solution

Anna suggests combining one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of tea tree essential oil in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture generously to affected areas until thoroughly soaked. Then, cover the area with tissue and spray again until the tissue is completely saturated. Allow it to soak for at least one hour before removing the tissue and wiping the surface clean. The mould should be gone.

Storage and safety tips

If making the solution to keep, use a dark bottle as hydrogen peroxide is reactive to light and can decompose. Always wear protective gloves during the treatment process and wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
