Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse has proudly unveiled a new fitness clothing collection, showcasing the impressive results of her recent health and wellness journey. The 44-year-old dancer and television personality promoted her collaboration with German lingerie brand Sugarshape in a video on Friday, highlighting her toned physique.
From Struggle to Strength: Motsi's Personal Fitness Journey
In the promotional clip, Motsi flashed a hint of her toned abs while wearing a black crop top and grey leggings from her new range, demonstrating her flexible, bendy physique. The accompanying Instagram post, translated from German, carried a message of self-empowerment: 'Today I'm dancing just for myself. I breathe, feel and recharge my energy.'
Motsi has been open about her weight being 'a constant struggle' throughout her life, particularly during her career as a professional dancer. She revealed to Prima magazine that a teacher once told her to lose weight when she was just 50 kilograms (approximately 110lbs). However, her perspective has since evolved. 'I'll never get to the stage where I think I look great, but I'm now much more compassionate towards myself,' she stated, emphasising that a healthy mind, body and soul is more important than being thin.
Back to Basics: Nutrition and Menopause Motivation
Rather than turning to modern weight loss solutions like injections, Motsi explained in October that she returned to fundamental principles. She credited her jaw-dropping transformation to weight training and a diet focused on nuts, fruit, and salad. A key motivator for this change has been the menopause.
Speaking to The Sun, Motsi expressed frustration with the fearmongering often associated with menopause and sought a positive outlook. 'I even asked Shirley Ballas. "Will it be OK?" and she shook her head, saying, "No, it’s going to be a ride!"' Motsi said. This conversation, however, sparked her determination to get fit and strong for 'what's to come' in this new life stage.
Overcoming Adversity On and Off the Dance Floor
Motsi's resilience extends beyond body image. She has also detailed her 'very scary' experience growing up under apartheid in South Africa, where she faced vile racism, including being branded a 'black witch' by nuns at her school.
Her fiery spirit was also on display recently on Strictly Come Dancing. During the quarter-finals, she humorously told off professional dancer Neil Jones for booing from the balcony. 'Neil, you get a partner next year, and I will be careful which numbers I will be pulling!' she quipped, before holding up a paddle with the number two and adding, 'There will be no noise from you!'
With her new fitness range, Motsi Mabuse continues to champion a message of strength, self-connection, and personal wellbeing as she steps into the new year with clarity and renewed energy.
