Martha Stewart's Anti-Ageing Secret: The Sunscreen She Never Skips

Martha Stewart, 84, has revealed the non-negotiable anti-ageing product she uses daily: Alastin’s HydraTint Pro Mineral Sunscreen. The lifestyle guru shared on her podcast that she applies it every single morning, often mixing it with a little serum. 'I will not leave the house without it in the morning,' she said.

Stewart told Vogue in 2023 that the tinted sunscreen gives her skin a glowing effect, even without makeup. 'Somebody took pictures of me going into the Today show, and the pictures are beautiful. I had not a stitch of makeup on except for Alastin, and I looked really good,' she remarked.

Kimberley Medd, Clinical Lead at Face The Future, emphasised the importance of daily SPF. 'Wearing SPF on your face every single day is the most effective step you can take to protect your skin’s health and maintain a youthful appearance long-term,' she said. Medd noted that UVA rays are present year-round and are the leading cause of premature ageing.

Face The Future found that 40% of UK consumers prioritise hydration over SPF’s anti-ageing benefits, despite UVA damage being the primary cause of skin ageing. Medd explained that while hydration supports skin barrier health, it does not shield against UV damage. Stewart’s sunscreen offers both protection and hydration.

Dermatologists recommend using at least SPF 30 daily, with SPF 50 for extended outdoor time. Dr. Ashley Magovern, a board-certified dermatologist, noted that SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays and is often more cosmetically appealing, making daily use more likely. Experts advise reapplying every two hours and using the 'two finger' method for adequate coverage on the face and neck.
