Gemma Atkinson Embraces 'Pro-Ageing' Philosophy in New Wellness Venture
Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Gemma Atkinson has publicly declared that she feels a profound sense of responsibility to champion natural ageing, as she candidly addresses widespread speculation about her potential use of cosmetic injectables. The 41-year-old actress and influencer, known for her role as Lisa Hunter on Channel 4's Hollyoaks, has sparked conversation by linking her personal ethos to her newly launched skincare and wellness brand, Gem & Tonic.
A Shift in Perspective on Cosmetic Procedures
Atkinson, who rose to fame as a glamour model and was featured in FHM's list of 100 Sexiest Women, has long been in the public eye, often facing pressure to maintain a youthful appearance. She joined Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 at age 32, partnering with Slovenian dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, and has since built a family with her partner, dancer Gorka Marquez, sharing two children, Mia and Thiago.
Despite previously considering botulinum toxin injections—commonly referred to by the brand name Botox—Atkinson now asserts that her business venture prevents her from pursuing such treatments. In an interview, she explained, "I feel like I can't be the face of my new wellness and skincare brand Gem & Tonic while filling myself with injectables. I feel a responsibility now to be pro-ageing, and to continue with my healthy lifestyle."
Addressing Rumours and Public Scrutiny
This is not the first instance where Atkinson has confronted rumours about cosmetic enhancements. Earlier this year, she responded to a social media message suggesting that Botox or fillers might be altering her facial expressions. The message read, "Gemma, sorry if I'm wrong, but it just looks like maybe botox/fillers are changing the way your face moves... Changing your facial expressions..."
Atkinson firmly denied these claims, stating, "I've never had any botox or fillers... That's just my natural face. Apologies if it moves in a funny way." She has also been questioned about her youthful appearance following the birth of her son Thiago in 2023, to which she replied, "Thank you. I'm asked this a lot. I haven't had any work on my face. I've thought about it but I'm scared it'll go wrong and I'll look like a cat or something."
Personal Reflections and Future Intentions
In a lighter moment, Atkinson shared that she and her friends had once joked about getting Botox together at age 40, but fears of adverse outcomes held them back. She humorously noted, "I'll probably need it before 40 as well now with sleepless nights again." However, her current stance reflects a significant shift towards embracing ageing naturally, driven by her commitment to her wellness brand.
Atkinson's openness about these topics highlights the broader societal pressures on women to conform to youthful beauty standards, while her 'pro-ageing' message aims to promote self-acceptance and healthy living. As she navigates her career and personal life, her candid confessions continue to resonate with fans and spark important conversations about beauty, ageing, and authenticity in the public sphere.
