Emma Forbes has unveiled the key strategies behind her remarkable 16lbs weight loss, captivating her followers with a recent swimsuit photo that showcased her stunning transformation. The 60-year-old veteran presenter, best known for hosting Live and Kicking, explained that she slimmed down after qualifying as a nutritionist, discovering that some eating habits she believed were healthy were actually detrimental.
Nutritional Insights and Dietary Changes
During her nutrition studies, Emma learned the significant benefits of eliminating refined sugar from her diet. She now relies on natural fruit to add sweetness when cooking, a shift that has profoundly impacted her health. She described the process of giving up refined sugar as akin to 'giving up smoking,' noting that her cravings began to diminish after about six weeks.
Emma elaborated: 'If I'm baking or cooking, I use fruit for sweetness. When I make banana bread, I depend on bananas, cinnamon, and vanilla essence. Refined sugar is a thing of the past, and I don't miss it. The more I see how sugar is hidden in food, the more horrified I am.' Her favourite snack has become dates stuffed with almond butter, drizzled with dark chocolate and frozen, which she compares to snickers bars.
Fitness Regimen and Lifestyle Adjustments
Alongside dietary changes, Emma has incorporated weight lifting and restorative yoga into her routine to tone her physique. She started restorative yoga seven years ago and more recently added weight training twice a week, overcoming initial fears about exacerbating her lower back issues. This combination has transformed her body, she claims.
To resist temptation while travelling, Emma prepares snacks in advance, carrying protein bars, chopped vegetables, almond butter, and electrolytes mixed with water post-security. She emphasised: 'Day to day, I always carry snacks. Preparation keeps you from poor choices.' Additionally, she has ditched alcohol, stating she dislikes its taste, comparing it to 'battery acid.'
Personal Motivation and Social Media Response
Emma's transformation gained praise on social media after she shared an Instagram post in January, revealing her new physique and qualification as a nutritionist. She captioned the post with reflections on her journey, expressing that she feels better at 60 than she did at 40 or 50, and emphasising a commitment to lifestyle changes over quick fixes.
Her motivation stemmed partly from seeing unflattering bikini paparazzi shots and a desire to lose baby weight that persisted after her children, Lily, 30, and Sam, 27, grew up. Emma explained: 'I had my children and never lost my baby weight. It's fine when kids are aged two or three, but there’s a problem when they are 20. I didn’t recognise myself.'
Empty Nest Syndrome and Long-Term Goals
With her children leaving home, Emma experienced empty nest syndrome, which prompted her to take action. She opted for a sustainable lifestyle change rather than surgery, focusing on health through nutrition and exercise. She said: 'I had empty nest syndrome and I didn’t want to be at home and eating. I just thought, have a lifestyle change. I didn’t want surgery. I'd end up on Botched. I thought it's time to get on top of health. So I gave up sugar and I walked. I hiked up mountains.'
Emma aims to continue setting realistic but high goals, prioritising muscle strength, toning, healthy weight maintenance, and sleep. She encourages others seeking long-term wellness to avoid quick fixes and embrace holistic approaches, sharing her real tips based on personal experience.
