With festival season in full swing and millions of attendees taking part, new research has revealed the most popular post-festival fatigue remedies, with a doctor explaining which ones actually work. While some people swear by aromatherapy, essential oils, raw eggs, and crystals to recover after a festival, Dr Amos Ogunkoya, speaking on behalf of Just Eat, has highlighted science-backed solutions for more effective recovery.
The Science of Post-Festival Recovery
Half of all festival-goers report feeling worse than ever the day after returning home, and the average recovery time spans two days. Dr Ogunkoya recommends a surprising yet simple remedy: a tin of baked beans. According to the doctor, the high-fibre and plant-protein content of baked beans provides a slow release of energy, which helps combat fatigue, while also supporting gut health. This is particularly beneficial after days of irregular eating patterns common at festivals.
Pickled Beetroot: An Unexpected Recovery Aid
Another unexpected addition to the recovery arsenal is pickled beetroot. Dr Ogunkoya cites it as an essential solution, packed with vitamins and minerals. The fermentation process involved in pickling produces probiotics that boost the immune system and aid gut health recovery. Additionally, sipping the pickling juice itself can reduce fatigue and support endurance.
Other Effective Recovery Hacks
Beyond these, other recovery tips include Lemon & Ginger Tea, which helps combat post-festival nausea; DioraHydrate Effervescent Tablets to replenish electrolytes lost through heat exposure; and Back & Muscle Pain Relief Gel, essential for soothing aches from carrying heavy rucksacks and sleeping on uneven campsite ground.
Expert Advice on Self-Care
Dr Ogunkoya said: "After festivals, our bodies need a lot of conscious recovery, repair, and TLC. It’s all about prioritising self-care after days of late nights, too much sun, and non-stop socialising, but many of us struggle to find solutions that actually stick."
