Bayern chief gives update on Musiala after collapse

Bayern Munich chief Max Eberl says Jamal Musiala is doing well after collapsing during a friendly against RB Leipzig. The German international fell to the ground in the latter stages of the 3-1 win in the Telekom Cup clash.

Incident in the heat

Reports suggest the dizzying heat in Bavaria played a role in the frightening moment for the 23-year-old, who was able to walk off after treatment. The incident occurred three minutes after Musiala scored Bayern's third goal, when he began to stagger with no opponents behind him.

Ismael Saibari was one of the first players on the scene before his Bayern teammates and medical staff rushed to support Musiala. BILD reported that the midfielder became dizzy while playing in temperatures of around 33 degrees, leading to circulation problems.

Eberl's reassurance

Eberl said: "The most important thing is that he is well. There's nothing more to say about anything else."

The German outlet also noted that Musiala is fighting to return to his old form and physical condition after the serious leg injury he suffered during last summer's Club World Cup.

Comeback setback

Last season, the Bayern star struggled with ankle problems as the German giants romped to another top-flight crown and bowed out in the Champions League semi-final. A metal plate was removed from his foot after Germany's disappointing World Cup exit, and he missed the pre-season tours in Asia.

He completed his individual rehabilitation training programme and returned to the fold on Monday, but suffered a setback in his first outing. Vincent Kompany introduced Musiala during the closing stages of the friendly against Leipzig, but just 15 minutes into his comeback he suffered the worrying collapse.

Manuel Neuer said: "It will become clear what it was. But of course we are keeping our fingers crossed."

England star Harry Kane and Michael Olise were among the players watching on from the stands after being afforded extra rest following their World Cup exploits.

Bayern take on Heidenheim in their latest practice match as part of preparations for the forthcoming season before their German Super Cup curtain-raiser against Borussia Dortmund on August 22.
