An optometrist at Specsavers in Wishaw is marking a significant career milestone this year, celebrating five years of dedicated service to the local community's eye health. Lucy Cairney, who originally joined the Main Street store as a part-time Saturday team member while studying optometry at Glasgow Caledonian University, has become a key expert in the team.
From Student to Expert Optometrist
Over the past five years, Lucy has completed her pre-registration year, qualified as an optometrist, and quickly established herself as an expert member of the team. She takes time to carefully assist customers with all their sight needs, ensuring they receive personalised care. Currently, she is pursuing an Independent Prescriber qualification, which will allow her to prescribe medications for minor eye conditions such as sore, red, or dry eyes, expanding the level of care she can provide.
Rewarding Experience and Team Support
Lucy expressed her pride in supporting customers throughout their journey at Specsavers Wishaw, from initial queries to finding the right solutions for their vision needs. She described it as a rewarding experience and credited the team for making her job enjoyable. “Over the past five years, the team I’ve worked with has really made my job such an enjoyable one. I’d like to thank store directors Laura and Erin, as well as the wider team, for all the opportunities, support and laughs,” she said. “I’m excited for the next ten years and what they bring.”
