Vitruvias Therapeutics is recalling a single lot of its Thyroid Tablets, USP 30 mg because testing showed the tablets could be “superpotent,” posing potential health risks. The recall was posted by the US Food and Drug Administration on Monday.
Reason for recall and distribution details
The company said in a statement that testing revealed the potential for the tablets to be superpotent. The recalled products were distributed between January 31, 2025 and September 30, 2025 and have an expiration date of September 30, 2026.
Vitruvias explained that the tablets can lead to hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, muscle weakness and chest pain.
Higher-risk groups and guidance for patients
Women, the elderly, children and pregnant women have a higher risk of the condition. Vitruvias added that there have been no reports of adverse effects from the tablets.
Patients currently taking the specific batch of tablets have been urged not to stop taking them without contacting their healthcare provider for guidance or a replacement prescription, according to Vitruvias.
