The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent recall for Baxters Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup, a smoked haddock chowder sold at UK supermarkets including Waitrose and Sainsbury's, over concerns that the tins could swell and rupture.
The FSA warned that the product may deteriorate and produce an "unpleasant odour and flavour." Shoppers who have purchased the soup are advised not to consume it and to dispose of the entire can immediately.
Affected batch and best before date
The Scottish soup manufacturer stated that the production fault may affect the 400g cans carrying batch code L07XC with an April 2029 best before date.
A recall notice has been issued, and notices will be displayed in stores throughout the UK where the product is sold, as well as on websites.
FSA advice for consumers
The FSA advised shoppers in England and Wales: "Baxters is recalling their Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup due to a manufacturing fault which may cause spoilage of the product and for cans to swell and potentially rupture."
It further stated: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, dispose of the full can and product without opening. Carefully place the full can in a bag and dispose of it in an external bin. Contact Baxters Customer Care team via the details below for a replacement."
Customers who have purchased the soup can contact Baxters on 0800 389 8389 or via email at CCUK@baxters.com.
How to identify the recalled product

The company advised taking a picture of the notice or writing down the batch code and best before date for reference at home, then disposing of the full can and product without opening.
