Greencore is recalling five food products sold in M&S and Tesco because salmonella has been found in pistachio nuts used as an ingredient, according to the Food Standards Agency. Customers who have bought any of the affected items are being asked not to eat them but to return them to the stores for a refund.
Three of the products were available in M&S and two in Tesco. The affected items are M&S Super Nutty Wholefood with a Soy & Ginger Dressing, M&S Nutrient Dense Nutty Super Wholefood, M&S Fresh Collection Pistachio Pesto, Pinch Pan Poppin' Chicken Pasanda & Nutty Pilau Rice and Pinch Bangin' Butter Chicken & Nutty Pilau Rice. The Pinch products are sold exclusively through Tesco.
Date and product codes affected
Only the items with certain date and product codes have been affected. The Food Standards Agency advised: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.
"Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others."
M&S warning notice
In its warning notice, M&S said: "In the abundance of caution, Greencore is recalling some pistachio products due to the possible presence of Salmonella. Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take food safety extremely seriously."
"Please do not consume this product. Any customers in possession of these products can return it to their nearest store where a full refund will be given. Only the displayed date codes are impacted. No other M&S products are affected. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused. For more information contact us on 03330148555."
