Music icon Barry Manilow has shared a positive update with his fans directly from his hospital bed, following a major operation to treat lung cancer.
Recovery Update from Hospital
The 82-year-old singer, famed for hits like Copacabana, posted on social media to reassure supporters about his condition. In a brief caption, the star simply stated he was “better today” as he recovers from the procedure. The post prompted an outpouring of support, including from his tour singer Melanie Taylor, who commented with love and prayer emojis.
Early Detection and Diagnosis
Manilow first revealed his diagnosis in late December 2025, after a prolonged bout of bronchitis. His doctor ordered an MRI as a precaution, which discovered a cancerous spot on his left lung. The singer credited “pure luck (and a great doctor)” for the early detection, which he described as the good news.
He explained that following the completion of his Christmas concerts, he would undergo surgery to have the spot removed. Crucially, his medical team believes the cancer has not spread, meaning he is unlikely to require follow-up chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
Post-Surgery Plans and Cancelled Shows
Outlining his recovery plan with characteristic humour, Manilow said his prescription involved “Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.” However, the necessary recovery period has forced him to make practical decisions regarding his career.
The star confirmed he will need a full month to recuperate, leading to the cancellation of his planned US tour dates for January 2026. Fans are now eagerly awaiting further news on his health and hoping for a swift return to the stage for the beloved performer.
