UKHSA Urges At-Risk Groups: Get Your Spring Covid Booster Now - Full Eligibility List Revealed
Spring Covid Booster: Full UK Eligibility List Confirmed

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a crucial update, confirming the full list of individuals now eligible for a spring Covid-19 booster vaccination. This proactive campaign aims to bolster protection for the most vulnerable against emerging variants.

The rollout, which began in April, targets specific groups deemed at highest risk of serious complications from the virus. The NHS is now inviting the following people to book their appointment or wait to be contacted:

  • Adults aged 75 years and over (by June 30, 2024)
  • Residents in care homes for older adults
  • Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed

This list is notably more targeted than previous campaigns, focusing efforts on those with the greatest clinical need. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advised this approach to ensure protection is maintained for those at highest risk of severe disease during the summer months.

Why a Spring Booster is Essential

Health experts emphasise that immunity from previous vaccinations can wane over time, particularly for older adults and those with weakened immune systems. The booster dose is designed to top up this defence, reducing the risk of hospitalisation and serious illness from new Covid strains.

Dr. Mary Ramsay, Head of Immunisation at UKHSA, stated: "Spring boosters provide vital protection for those at highest risk, keeping them protected through the summer. If you are eligible, please come forward as soon as you are invited to ensure you are protected."

How to Get Your Vaccination

Most eligible individuals will receive an invitation from their GP or local NHS service. Appointments can be booked through the NHS website, the NHS App, or by calling 119. Many local pharmacies also offer walk-in services.

The UKHSA and NHS are urging everyone who falls into these categories to take up the offer without delay, ensuring the nation's most vulnerable are protected.
