Finnian Garbutt, the 28-year-old actor best known for playing PC Ryan Power in the BBC crime drama Hope Street, has announced that his cancer has spread and he is now entering the last stages of his life. The Northern Ireland-based star was diagnosed with stage 3 skin cancer four years ago after finding a lump behind his ear.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Garbutt wrote: 'Unfortunately the scans have shown that the cancer has progressed rapidly in my body and I am now entering the last stages of life.' He explained that he had been admitted to hospital for observations due to pain in his back and hip, and the scans revealed the rapid progression of the disease.
Garbutt, who is married and has a baby daughter, said he wanted to share the news openly so he could focus on spending time with loved ones. He reflected on achieving his life goals since diagnosis, including starring in 30 episodes of a TV show, leading a film, buying a house, marrying his best friend, and becoming a father.
Earlier, Garbutt had told Belfast Live that his world came 'crashing down' after being told he could die. He underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove 75 lymph nodes from his face and neck. The Macmillan Support Line offers confidential support to those affected by cancer.
