The community in Kirby is in mourning after the sudden death of a much-loved music teacher, Kalaivani Balakrishnan, who was 25 weeks pregnant with twins.
A Devastating Loss for Family and Community
Kalaivani Balakrishnan, 41, collapsed at her semi-detached home in Kirby on Tuesday evening following a medical emergency. Despite the swift response of emergency services, who were called by the North West Ambulance Service, the expectant mother and her unborn twins tragically died at the scene.
Her devastated family have described her as a 'kind-hearted' woman, while a close friend paid a touching tribute, calling her a 'light in the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her'. The friend's statement highlighted her profound impact: 'She nurtured generations of students, not just in music but in life, teaching them patience and humility.'
Fundraiser to Support Grieving Husband
In the wake of the tragedy, friends have established a GoFundMe page to support Kalaivani's husband, RK, who is said to be 'devastated beyond words' and is being comforted by close friends and staff at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
The fundraiser has a target of £30,000 to cover the costs of repatriating Kalaivani and her twins to her birthplace of Malaysia, as well as funeral expenses. At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised an impressive £21,190.
The page states: 'Our initial goal is £20,000... Any remaining funds will be used to assist them as they recover from this heartbreaking loss. Your kindness, generosity, and prayers mean so much.'
A Legacy of Music and Kindness
Kalaivani's legacy is one of music and compassion. The tribute from her friend beautifully captured her enduring spirit: 'Her loss leaves a silence that words can hardly fill. Yet her spirit continues to resonate in every song she taught, every heart she touched, and every memory she left behind. Kalaivani’s melody will forever live on in our hearts, in her students, and in the music she loved so deeply.'
Merseyside Police confirmed their officers attended the scene but are treating the death as a non-suspicious, medical incident.
