Community in Mourning After Tragic Loss
A close-knit community in Kirkby, Merseyside, has been left reeling after the sudden death of a pregnant woman at her home. Kalaivani Balakrishnan, aged 41, was the victim of a tragic medical emergency that occurred on Tuesday, November 11, at a property on Highsted Road.
Emergency Services' Frantic Response
The incident was reported to the North West Ambulance Service just before 11am, prompting an immediate and large-scale emergency response. Police and paramedics rushed to the semi-detached house, where they found Ms Balakrishnan in need of urgent medical attention.
Despite the best efforts of all emergency personnel at the scene, her life could not be saved, and she was pronounced dead at the property. The scale of the response was significant, with witnesses reporting two air ambulances dispatched to the area. One landed near Headbolt Lane railway station, while a second touched down at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
A heavy police presence remained throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, with several patrol cars and plain-clothed detectives conducting inquiries at the home and in the back garden.
Neighbours' Heartfelt Tributes and Shock
In the wake of the tragedy, neighbours have spoken of their profound shock and sadness. One local woman, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her distress, saying, "I can't sleep thinking about the family, it's so sad." She recalled Ms Balakrishnan's kindness, remembering how she handed out sweets to children at Halloween.
Another resident described the expectant mother as "lovely" and "quiet," noting that the news had sent shockwaves through the local community's group chat. The family had moved into the area approximately three years ago.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that the death is being treated as non-suspicious and that no criminal offences have been identified. No arrests have been made. The force has urged the public to avoid speculation online, stating it is "unhelpful and potentially hurtful to those involved."
A report is now being prepared for the coroner for Sefton, St Helens and Knowsley, which will later be transferred to the coroner for Liverpool and Wirral, as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this devastating loss.
