A former doctor is facing a series of grave charges following a major police investigation into alleged sexual offences at two NHS hospitals in the Midlands.
Detailed Charges Span Multiple Years
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with a total of 45 sexual offences relating to 38 separate victims, all of whom were patients under his care. The alleged crimes are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2021.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) detailed the specific charges, which include:
- 15 counts of sexual assault
- 17 counts of assault by penetration
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration
Complex Police Investigation at Two Hospitals
The charges are the result of what Staffordshire Police termed a "complex investigation" into incidents alleged to have taken place at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.
Ben Samples, a deputy chief prosecutor for the CPS, explained the process leading to the charges. "Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation by Staffordshire police," he stated. "They carefully reviewed the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings."
Court Appearance Scheduled
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 20 January to face the charges. The case highlights serious safeguarding concerns within clinical settings.
Authorities have urged anyone with further information or concerns related to the investigation to come forward and contact Staffordshire Police directly.
