Michael Clarke, the former Australian cricket captain, has undergone another skin cancer removal procedure. The 45-year-old took to Instagram to confirm that he had further treatment for the disease, which he has been battling since his initial diagnosis in 2006.
Ongoing Battle with Skin Cancer
Clarke, who captained Australia in both Test and One Day International formats, has had multiple removals over the years. He visited the Woollahra clinic to have another melanoma removed from his face, thanking Dr Bish Soliman and the clinic for their care. In a social media post, he wrote: 'Just had another skin cancer removed from my face. Thank you @DrBishSoliman, @TheWoollahranClinic for looking after me #GETYOURSKINCHECKED.'
Personal Fears and Family
In 2023, Clarke admitted that his skin cancer scares left him fearing he might not be around for his daughter, Kelsey Lee. 'It does scare me. I am a dad – I don't want to go anywhere. The most important thing in the world is making sure I help my seven-year-old daughter and set a good example for her,' he said.
Clarke has long attributed his skin cancer to his cricketing career, which involved long hours in the sun. He recalled fielding all day in India, exposed for eight hours without adequate protection. 'Imagine fielding all day in India, out there for eight hours in the sun, a lot of the guys are wearing the baggy green cap so you are not protecting your ears or your face. You've got short-sleeved shirts so your arms and the tops of your hands are exposed,' he explained.
Previous Surgeries and Advocacy
Clarke previously underwent surgery in March 2022 and again in August 2025 to remove skin cancer from his face. He was first diagnosed in 2006 and has since had regular check-ups every six to twelve months. In 2014, he appeared in an ad campaign for the Cancer Council, advising fans to 'keep a close eye' on their skin. 'Aussie blokes and women need to keep a close eye on your skin, particularly look in those hard to see places, and familiarise yourself with your body,' he urged.
