McTominay returns to Napoli training after heart surgery
McTominay back in Napoli training after heart surgery

Scott McTominay has returned to individual training with Napoli following a heart operation. The Scotland midfielder, 29, underwent a procedure after being diagnosed with a benign arrhythmia, a non-serious condition that can sometimes cause the heart to beat outside its normal rhythm.

McTominay has sat out Napoli's last four games since the surgery and was not included in Sebastien Pocognoli's first Scotland camp. However, he has stepped up his recovery after being pictured working on an exercise bike.

Napoli confirm training return

In a statement, Napoli confirmed: "The Azzurri continued training during the international window. The team took part in a morning training session, with exercises in the gym and change-of-direction drills on the pitch. Scott McTominay returned to the SSC Napoli Training Centre and trained separately in the gym."

It is understood the former Manchester United star is targeting a comeback against Frosinone following the international break. Napoli are currently ninth in Serie A and have secured victory in only one of the games that McTominay has been unavailable for.

Scotland return on the horizon

McTominay will have the all-clear to return for Scotland's games against North Macedonia and Switzerland in November. The national side face Slovenia (twice), Switzerland and North Macedonia in the Nations League over the next fortnight.
