A human body has been discovered emerging from a melting glacier in northern Pakistan, prompting a police investigation into the mysterious find.
The grim discovery was made in the remote Shimshal Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, where retreating ice continues to reveal long-hidden secrets of the mountainous region.
Police Launch Investigation
Local authorities have confirmed the recovery of the body, which was found in an advanced state of preservation due to the freezing conditions. Forensic experts have been called to examine the remains and determine possible causes of death.
"We're treating this as a suspicious death until proven otherwise," a police spokesperson stated. "The body appears to have been encased in ice for considerable time."
Climate Change Reveals the Past
Scientists note that retreating glaciers across the Himalayas are increasingly exposing human remains and artifacts from different historical periods. This phenomenon has become more frequent with accelerating climate change in the region.
The Shimshal Valley, where the body was found, sits at an elevation of over 3,000 meters and is home to some of Pakistan's most spectacular glacial landscapes.
