Road Closures Confirmed Near Liverpool's Sefton Park This Weekend
Road Closures Near Sefton Park This Weekend

Road closures have been confirmed near Sefton Park in Liverpool this weekend as the Africa Oyé festival returns. The UK's largest celebration of African music and culture began as a series of gigs in Liverpool city centre in 1992 and has since transformed into a major event held at Sefton Park. This year, the festival takes place on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21.

Festival Highlights

Africa Oyé has hosted artists from across Africa and also features music from South America and the Caribbean, including salsa, reggae, and more. In addition to the music, there will be over 90 stalls selling food, drink, arts, and crafts in the Oye village.

Road Closures and Access Restrictions

To manage the event, road closures will be in place. From June 20 to 21, entry to Aigburth Drive and Croxteth Drive will be closed to general traffic, with access only for residents and staff. The closures were authorised under a Special Event Temporary Traffic Regulation Order issued by Liverpool City Council Highways Department.

Additionally, a section of Croxteth Gate car park, used as the main production entrance, will be a restricted area with no public access from Monday, June 15 at 7am to Wednesday, June 24 at 8pm. The Review Field itself will be closed to public access from Wednesday, June 17 at 7am until Tuesday, June 23 at 8pm.

Public Transport Options

Attendees are encouraged to use public transport. The nearest train station is St Michaels station on Merseyrail's Hunts Cross line. From there, walk down Belgrave Road to Aigburth Road, cross onto Lark Lane, and walk the full length of Lark Lane to reach Sefton Park — about one mile.

Bus services are also available on Saturday and Sunday, including those run by Arriva and Stagecoach:
