Liverpool Warned to Close Windows as Smoke Covers Aintree Fire

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has urged residents in Aintree to keep their windows and doors closed after a fire broke out on the Loop Line cycle path near Montgomery Road, generating a significant amount of smoke. Crews were called to the scene at approximately 8.20pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to tackle the blaze on a grassy area.

Fire Crews Respond to Blaze in Aintree

A video sent to the Liverpool ECHO showed plumes of smoke billowing into the air from the fire. The fire service confirmed that a substantial quantity of smoke was being produced and advised nearby residents to take precautions. Anyone with existing health conditions was advised to keep their medicines close at hand and to dial NHS 111 if they experienced any ill effects.

This incident comes just two days after smoke covered parts of Liverpool on Sunday, July 7, following a major incident in North Wales. Firefighters tackled two significant blazes in Conwy and Gwynedd over the weekend, which affected several beauty spots near Merseyside. Some residents in nearby communities were forced to evacuate as a result of the wildfires.
