Lidl has issued an urgent recall for its 1001 Delights Dubai Style Pistachio Ice Cream after discovering that the product contains undeclared cashew nuts, posing a health risk to customers with nut allergies. The recall applies to Northern Ireland and Ireland only.
Product Details and Risk
The affected product comes in a 300g pack size with a best before date of December 8, 2027. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated: "This product contains cashew (nuts) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to cashews. Lidl are recalling the above product." The FSA further explained that recalls occur "if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect."
What Customers Should Do
Customers who have purchased the ice cream are advised not to eat it. Lidl has instructed: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund." The supermarket confirmed that refunds will be given with or without a receipt. Point of sale notices are being displayed in all relevant stores to inform customers.
Lidl's notice read: "Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland is recalling the above 1001 Delights Dubai Style Pistachio Ice Cream due to the presence of cashews, which are not declared in the ingredient list. If you have purchased the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to cashews, we advise you not to consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund." The supermarket apologized for any inconvenience and provided customer service contacts: for the Republic of Ireland, call 019203010, and for Northern Ireland, call 0289568488.
Other Recalls
This recall follows another alert issued over the weekend. Capri Sun UK Limited recalled specific batches of Capri-Sun Orange because some multipacks contain pouches incorrectly labelled as Capri-Sun Orange Zero. The pouches contain regular Capri-Sun Orange with normal sugar levels, not the zero-sugar version, posing a risk to consumers managing sugar intake. The recall covers 10-packs of 200ml juices with batch codes L104, L105, L106 and a best before date of April 1, 2027.
