PepsiCo has recalled its Doritos Chilli Heatwave crisps from UK supermarkets after it emerged that some packets may contain Tangy Cheese seasoning, which includes milk not declared on the label. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the alert, warning that the product poses a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.
Recall Details and Affected Batches
The recall applies specifically to 140g packs of Doritos Chilli Heatwave with a best before date of 05 December 2026 and batch code GBC 209 184C. No other batch codes with the same best before date are affected. The FSA has urged customers to check the best before code and back code printed in the box on the back of the pack.
Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised not to eat it. Instead, they should return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund. Health Risks for Milk Allergy Sufferers
The FSA stated: “Some of the packets may contain Tangy Cheese seasoning, containing milk, which is not mentioned on the label, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.” Anyone with a milk allergy who consumes the product could experience symptoms such as itchy skin, hives, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, wheezing, vomiting, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, a milk allergy can trigger anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that narrows the airways and can block breathing.
According to the Mayo Clinic, milk is the third most common food to cause anaphylaxis, after peanuts and tree nuts.
