Celebrity Big Brother Faces Axe as ITV Struggles to Sign Stars

Celebrity Big Brother is reportedly facing cancellation, with ITV struggling to secure high-profile contestants for the reality show. The programme, revived by ITV in 2024 after its original run on Channel 4, has completed only two seasons in its latest incarnation, with David Potts and Jack P. Shepherd winning the respective series.

An insider told The Sun that bosses are finding it increasingly difficult to sign celebrities, as many are now pushing their agents to get them on the new BBC show The Celebrity Traitors. This is causing problems for other major shows like Strictly Come Dancing and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, which now find themselves second in the pecking order for star contestants.

The source added that ITV is also working to secure two sets of stars for I'm a Celebrity and its new spin-off, The Wild Frontier, which would air around the same time as a potential new series of Celebrity Big Brother in early 2027. An ITV spokesperson told The Mirror: 'Big Brother returns to ITVX and ITV2 later this year. No decisions have been made for 2027 as yet.'

ITV's Director of Television Kevin Lygo previously said at the 2025 Edinburgh TV Festival that the show was being considered for ITV2 rather than the main channel, citing the difficulty of booking big celebrities. He added: 'It's a really important, crucial show. I love it and it does a tremendous job for us so, yes, it's coming back.'
