Home Cook Reveals 5-Minute Method for Ultimate Pan-Fried Toast
5-Minute Pan-Fried Toast Recipe for Ultimate Breakfast

Home cook Taylor Ann Spencer has shared her five-minute method for creating the 'ultimate' toast, but insists on one key swap: use a pan instead of a toaster.

The Ultimate Toast Method

In a TikTok video, Spencer explained that while a toaster yields 'okay' results, a pan-fried approach elevates the bread. She recommends buying a full-size loaf and slicing it yourself to control thickness—her ideal is half an inch.

'Oil the pan—not the bread,' she advised, using extra-virgin olive oil. 'Just a little so that it evenly conducts the pan heat and creates that golden, crispy exterior. Hot oil sets you up for crispy, crunchy deliciousness.'

Checking Doneness

To check if the toast is ready, Spencer suggests gently lifting it in the pan to inspect the underside. However, she warns: 'If you peek too early, you will destroy your opportunity for the golden, crispy, crunchy crust.'

Seasoning and Final Touch

Once golden on both sides, the final step is seasoning. 'Finish with a little salt. I love flaky [salt]—it adds a little nice, fun texture, but you could also do kosher or even fine sea salt if you want,' she said.

Spencer concluded: 'So the next time you want the ultimate toast—grab a pan, not a toaster.'

Viewer Reactions

Viewers responded positively. One TikTok user admitted: 'I would have never thought to do it in oil!' Another wrote: 'Tried this and it was so good. 10/10.' However, a third noted: 'By definition, it's not toast. But it does look good.'
