Hundreds of demonstrators from the direct action group Palestine Action have brought a vital British arms factory to a complete standstill after storming the site in a major coordinated protest.
The activists targeted UAV Engines Ltd in Shenstone, Kent—a key facility known for manufacturing components for Israeli military drones. In a dramatic escalation of tactics, protesters scaled the roof of the main building, while others chained themselves to gates and blockaded entrances to prevent any workers or vehicles from entering or leaving.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing at least two individuals on the rooftop, with many more gathered at the perimeter fences holding banners that read 'UK Arming Genocide' and 'Free Palestine'. The group has stated its intention to occupy the site for as long as possible to disrupt production.
Staff arriving for their shifts were reportedly turned away as the protest intensified throughout the morning. The action has caused significant disruption to the operations of the factory, which is a subsidiary of Israeli defence giant Elbit Systems.
A significant police presence is on the scene, with officers from Staffordshire Police attempting to manage the situation and negotiate with the protesters. Arrests have been confirmed, though the exact number remains unclear at this time.
This protest is part of a wider wave of actions targeting sites across the UK with links to the Israeli defence industry. Palestine Action and other groups are demanding the British government immediately cease all arms sales and military support to Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Live footage from the scene shows a tense but largely peaceful standoff between police and protesters, who are chanting and singing. The group has vowed to continue their campaign until all UK-Israel arms trade is permanently halted.
