Novak Djokovic is "most welcome" at the wedding of a couple who got engaged on Centre Court just before his third-round Wimbledon match. Jonathan Clement, 38, proposed to his partner of 10 months, Juliet Berner, 39, in the stands under blue skies on Thursday.
"When you know, you know," said a delighted Jonathan, adding there will "definitely be a touch of Wimbledon" on their big day. Despite being huge tennis fans, the couple, who live in Portugal, met playing padel.
Proposal at the "Holy Grail"
A beaming Juliet said she had "no idea" the proposal was coming. "I'm a huge [Roger] Federer fan but Djokovic I love too as well as the next best," she added. Jonathan said he decided to propose on Centre Court as it is the "holy grail" for Juliet, who grew up down the road in Southfields.
He also revealed he had some difficulties getting the stunning ring to the UK. "I had a bit of a drama with the ring," he said. "It got sent to her aunties in Chelsea, and they rejected it on Monday. It got sent back second class to my mum, she came down on the train yesterday and we met at King's Cross. I snuck away to get the ring and here we are!"
Djokovic's Wimbledon Campaign
Djokovic is playing Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech as he looks to win a joint-record eighth Wimbledon singles title. The couple's engagement adds a romantic backdrop to the tournament.
