Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has publicly supported her on-screen daughter Sydney Martin as a major new storyline unfolded on the ITV soap. The actress, who plays DS Lisa Connor-Swain, took to Instagram to praise Martin's performance after Betsy Swain suffered a life-changing stroke.
Betsy's Devastating Diagnosis
During the episode broadcast on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, an ambulance was seen pulling away from No. 6 after Ryan Connor discovered an unconscious Betsy on the kitchen floor. Rushed to hospital, doctors confirmed the teenager had suffered a stroke. Her mothers, Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain, kept vigil at her bedside, but Betsy then suffered a second stroke after her condition appeared to stabilise.
Doctors determined the stroke was caused by a blood clot resulting from neck artery damage due to temporary loss of circulation. Betsy later revealed to her mother that her boyfriend Dylan had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
