Trevor Eve is back on screens this week in the BBC's latest drama, I, Jack Wright. The twisty whodunnit first aired on U&Alibi in April 2025 but has now been acquired by the BBC, bringing it to a wider audience. The murder mystery explores the explosive fallout for a wealthy family after the apparent sudden death of patriarch Jack Wright, played by Eve. Critics have labelled the series "faultless."
Plot and Attraction for Trevor Eve
Trevor portrays Jack Wright, a self-made billionaire whose death sparks a bitter feud among family and friends fighting for a share of his fortune. Speaking about what attracted him to the series, Trevor shared: "I worked with writer Chris Lang on a project called Lawless and on his hugely successful series Unforgotten. Chris writes characters with all their flaws, and that is fabulous to play." He added: "His characters are often pitted against one another, and that’s what’s fascinating: the psychosocial manipulation of the characters as they interact. The viewer never quite knows the intention behind the manipulation but then it gradually gets revealed."
Trevor Eve's Career
The actor has had an incredible career spanning more than 50 years. Trevor rose to fame playing the iconic 70s detective Eddie Shoestring in the BBC drama Shoestring and starred in films such as Dracula and Scandal. Television roles have included appearances in Shadow Chasers, A Sense of Guilt, The Politician's Wife, Kidnap and Ransom, Death Comes to Pemberley, The Interceptor, Unforgotten, Strike Back, and A Discovery of Witches, among many more. However, his biggest role to date is likely playing Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd in all nine series of the long-running BBC crime drama Waking the Dead.
Trevor Eve's Famous Family
Trevor is married to fellow actor Sharon Maughan; the couple have three grown-up children, including Hollywood star Alice Eve. Sharon is known for her television appearances on Shabby Tiger, The Main Chance, The Enigma Files, Dombrey & Son, By the Sword Divided, and Holby City, where she played Tricia Williams between 2003 and 2006. She also starred opposite Trevor in Waking the Dead and Kidnap and Ransom. Film credits include The Bank Job, She's Out Of My League, and Time Lapse. Sharon also appeared in the Gold Blend Couple Nescafé TV adverts during the 90s.
Trevor and Sharon have three children: Alice, Jack, and George. Their daughter Alice has followed them into acting, starring in major blockbusters including Men in Black 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Sex and the City 2. She has also starred in television shows such as Belgravia, Iron Fist, and Entourage.
Advice for His Children
In a recent interview with RadioTimes, Trevor was asked whether he encouraged his children to follow in his footsteps like his character Jack, who wants his kids to go into the family trade. He told the publication: "No. I started life as an architect, and never had any intention of being an actor. With Alice, I insisted she go to university and she went to Oxford. In the creative arts, you’re dependent on approval, which is a weak position to be in. But my daughter is very, very successful, so she’s fine."
I, Jack Wright continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Monday, July 13.
