Anne Hegerty, known as The Governess on ITV's The Chase, has revealed that a fan almost spoiled the new spin-off series The Chase Around The World during filming in Rome. The six-part special sees six teams of two competing to win £100,000 as they take on the quiz show in destinations across Europe.
Filming in Public Spaces
The show was filmed in front of famous landmarks and tourist sites, making it challenging to keep the production secret. Hegerty recalled a moment in Rome where she and fellow Chaser Mark Labbett were filming near a monument to Italian unification. She said: “There was a woman in front who kept turning around, and I’m sure she recognised us. I thought, oh my god, she’s going to spoil the show, they run past and she’s going to go ‘They’re there!’ Of course, she didn’t, she had enough sense not to do that.”
Fan Encounters
Shaun Wallace, also known as The Dark Destroyer, added that fans were respectful during filming. He recalled an incident in Lisbon where he and Paul Sinha were recognised by a stag party. Wallace said: “I will always stop and take photographs with people who recognise us because it’s my way of saying thank you to the public. As long as they’re not rude or intrusive, we’ll stop. And they happened to be on a stag night, so we took the pictures, but the one thing we said to them was, ‘Don’t post it until July because obviously we don’t want to give our location away’.”
Show Format
The Chase Around The World starts in Rome, where teams solve quiz questions leading them to clues across the city before finding host Bradley Walsh at the finish line. The team that comes in last must then face two Chasers in a final quiz round to stay in the competition. The series airs Thursday, July 16, at 9pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player.
