Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid was momentarily left to manage the programme solo after co-host Ed Balls failed to return from an advert break on Tuesday's show. The 55-year-old anchor could not resist teasing her colleague upon his return, highlighting the awkward on-air moment.
Ed Balls Disappears During Commercial Break
As the cameras returned to the studio after a standard advertising interval, Susanna was heard asking, "Where's he gone?" before continuing, "Still to come on Good Morning Britain, we're talking about who is better at multitasking and Ed Balls has left the studio. So I think I'll take that as a win." She added, "Now apparently, we're equal according to a new study but add a conversation into juggling jobs, men are more likely to switch off. Let us know, let us know what you think."
A flustered Ed, 59, soon rushed back into the studio, explaining that he had visited the toilet during the break. He joked that the facilities were almost based in Clapham, but the journey took longer than expected. Susanna seized the opportunity to mock him, quipping, "Do you mean you can't multitask by going and having a comfort break and presenting at the same time?"
Ed Balls' Journey on Good Morning Britain
Ed Balls first joined Good Morning Britain in 2021 as a guest presenter before becoming a permanent rotating presenter alongside Susanna in 2022. The former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer is married to Yvette Cooper, who serves as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. Susanna has hosted the ITV programme since its launch in 2014, making her one of the longest-serving presenters.
Over the years, notable figures such as Piers Morgan and Ben Shephard have left the show to pursue other projects. Other regular presenters include Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh, Charlotte Hawkins, Richard Arnold, and Laura Tobin. Guest hosts like Richard Madeley, Adil Ray, and Robert Rinder occasionally fill in during holiday seasons or when main hosts are absent.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV X, with episodes also available for catch-up on the platform.
