Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's duet Rein Me In has made chart history this weekend, breaking a longstanding record to become the longest-running number one in UK chart history. The track has now spent a massive 16 consecutive weeks at the top of the charts.
This surpasses the record previously held by Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around Us, which set the record 32 years ago during the summer of 1994 when it was featured in the Richard Curtis film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Legends Congratulate the Duo
Wet Wet Wet's current line-up congratulated Sam and Olivia, telling Sky News: "It's great to see amazing British artists continuing to produce songs that connect with so many people."
Sam himself posted about the achievement, saying: "I can’t thank the fans and Olivia enough for making this song bigger than all of us. Love from Sam x."
Tribute at British Summer Time Festival
On stage at the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park this weekend, fellow songwriter Lewis Capaldi paid tribute to the North Shields lad as he brought him on stage. Capaldi joked: "There’s another man who released his first single in March 2017. And that man had gone on to do some incredible things. Like recently becoming the longest-running British number one of all time, stadiums around the world, most importantly a dear dear close friend of mine."
The Rise of 'Rein Me In'
Rein Me In initially appeared on Sam's People Watching album, but the duet version with fellow award-winner Olivia Dean became a massive hit earlier this year, even winning the BRIT Award for best single.
