Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) finally faces her day in court, and there’s no way she can escape Coronation Street justice. Right? Right?? It’s hard to think of a more despicable villain than Megan. It’s bad enough that she abused her position as an athletics coach and a teacher to coerce schoolboy Will Driscoll into a sexually abusive relationship, but she also targeted another young lad, Lee (Oscar Aldersley) and did the same to him. Proving her evil runs unbelievably deep, she then waged all-out psychological warfare against poor Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) when he exposed her horrific abuse, which had such a devastating effect on the poor lad’s psyche that he saw a hallucination of an evil Roy Cropper (David Nielson).
Will's Escape and Testimony
With Will still well and truly under Megan’s thrall, it seemed as if the abuser might go unpunished as the police had no solid evidence on which to charge. So confident was Megan of her plan that she’d already bought a ticket to Paris to escape the law forever, with poor Will going along with it, having no idea that she intended to leave him behind. Fortunately, Will just happened to climb into a taxi driven by the one man in Weatherfield who understood what he was going through – Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine). Opening up about his own sexual abuse ordeal, Tim appealed to Will not to run away with Megan and finally made the poor lad see the truth – Megan never cared about him at all. With the scales falling from his eyes, Will bravely reported Megan to the police for sexual abuse of a minor.
Megan's Manipulations Continue
Unfortunately, Megan’s manipulations won’t stop there, as step-sister Susie (Aurora Bradshaw) discovers Megan’s contact details on Will’s game console. When grandma Maggie (Pauline McLynn) and brother Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) learn the truth, they set about warning him of further manipulation from Megan. Next week sees the Driscolls shaken as Janine (Melissa Jacques), Megan’s mother, arrives, full of apologies for her daughter’s sick behaviour. Unable to stomach the conversation further, an incandescent Ben orders her out of the Rovers. Janine acquiesces and leaves the pub, though in direct opposition to what she told the Driscolls, she’s very much in touch with Megan and believes her version of events – that Will took advantage of her when she was in a vulnerable position and she now faces prison because of his actions.
Janine's Desperate Tactics
As Megan sobs, Janine aches for her devious daughter and decides to try another tactic, approaching Will directly. Seeing him on the street, she makes a beeline for him, but what will she have to say to him? While we can’t reveal the outcome, the trial does get underway, with a deeply conflicted Will taking to the stand after his pre-recorded statement is played, where he’s faced with Megan’s stare and an aggressive barrister, while Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) sets about destroying Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) on the stand.
Sam's Determination and Family Worries
At the hospital, Sam is determined to attend Megan’s trial, hoping that it’ll help him find closure in the hideous ordeal, leaving Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) deeply worried about the impact it could have on him.
Jury Deliberates Megan's Fate
By the end of the week, all evidence has been heard, and it’s down to the jury to decide Megan’s fate, but what will the outcome ultimately be?
