Fans are already sharing their excitement over the upcoming limited drama series about Lucy Maud Montgomery, the beloved Canadian author of the classic novel Anne of Green Gables. The series, titled Lucy Maud, is being developed by Toronto-based producer Neshama Entertainment and has fans emotional even before its release.
What is the Lucy Maud Series About?
The series will explore Montgomery's transformation from a writer to an internationally recognised author, specifically focusing on how she dealt with the pressures of fame and public scrutiny. However, the drama promises to reveal "darker, more surprising truths" about Montgomery's personal life that fans may not be aware of.
“Everyone knows Anne Shirley. Almost nobody knows Lucy Maud Montgomery. The truth is far more complicated, far more fascinating and long overdue,” said executive producer Mary Young Leckie. Neshama employee Brook Peters added: "Lucy Maud Montgomery built a world that belongs to everyone – and audiences from Tokyo to Toronto have never let go of it. Now we get to show them something thrillingly unexpected inside that world."
Who Stars in the Series?
The series stars Megan Follows, who portrayed Anne Shirley in the 1985 miniseries Anne of Green Gables. She will star opposite Amybeth McNulty, who played the iconic character in Netflix's Anne with an E, which ran from 2017 to 2019. The casting has thrilled fans, with many expressing their excitement on social media.
Fans React to the Announcement
Fans have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts. One wrote: "I’m ready for the Green Gables multiverse." Another posted: "Ok I knew about Megan playing Montgomery, but Amybeth is news to me! She would be perfect as the teenage Lucy Maud!" A third shared: "I'm going to burst into tears the second it starts." A fourth said: "This sounds interesting, but I wish someone would faithfully adapt one of the later books. A well done 'Anne’s House of Dreams' or 'Rilla of Ingleside' could be so amazing."
