Laura Norton Reveals Why Kerry Demands Caleb Go to Police

Emmerdale star Laura Norton has revealed why Kerry Wyatt is pushing Caleb Miligan to go to the police after a chilling discovery in their counterfeit shoe scheme. The couple is shocked to find a label sewn into one of the shoes that reads 'help me'. Kerry urges Caleb to do the right thing and contact the authorities, but Caleb is hesitant.

Kerry's Emotional Reaction

In an interview shared with the Manchester Evening News, Laura Norton explained Kerry's motivation: "She never wanted to do it. She was on her way to go and tell Caleb what she was up to and the way she was undermined by him, she was starting to feel really small." Norton added: "I think it's a bit triggering for her because her bottom line is that she's a bit worthless and no good and she just thought stuff it. It was a very emotional reaction. It's a very Kerry reaction. Very old school Kerry reaction. She went and did the scam. I think as soon as she'd done it, probably felt like she knew it was the worst decision ever."

Bear's Furious Reaction

When Bear finds the shoe with the label in Caleb's office, he reacts furiously, and Kerry is startled by his emotional response. Bear's PTSD is triggered by the discovery. Caleb lets Bear say his piece, and Billy also gets wind of the situation, urging Caleb to tell the police. Caleb asks for time, but Billy remains sceptical.

Caleb's New Scheme

Later, Caleb tells Kerry he has informed the police about the shoe label. However, he becomes intrigued when Kammy tells him about the markup on branded versus non-branded car parts. Caleb is adamant there could be money in car parts and asks Kerry to think about the idea. Kerry is unsure what to think about this new potential scheme.

Kerry's Tangled Web

Norton teased: "She's creating a very, very tangled web, and you do just think, God, where's this going to go? Because it usually always comes out in the wash, doesn't it?" She praised her character, saying: "I've said this so many times and I'm like a broken record but I do feel like I won the lottery when I got this character because she knows no bounds. Nothing would surprise me and there's so many different places that you can go with her because she has got a heart and she can be really loyal and sincere, and when she's with somebody, she knows how to have fun and love them." Norton added: "She's the life and soul of the party, but she's also really flawed and tragic. She's lost the love of her life and she's battling with some demons."

Working with William Ash

Laura Norton also gushed over co-star William Ash, who plays Bear: "Will and I have really enjoyed working together, and we've said, we need to find another opportunity for a story like this again, because it's when you put two characters that you wouldn't normally put together in the same world."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
